Join us on this unique 8-10 mile cross bay sponsored walk across the tidal sands and mudflats of Morecambe Bay to raise money to protect the stunning Lake District landscapes. Saturday 27th July 2019 Kindly sponsored by The Morecambe Bay Walk takes you across the largest expanse of tidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom. This landscape is constantly moving and shifting so you will be led by the new official guide Michael Wilson who has just taken over from Cedric Robinson MBE who was the Queens Guide to the Sands for over 50 years. The walk is suitable for anyone who is comfortable walking over uneven terrain for 3 to 4 hours. The majority of the walk will be over sand, however you will also be required to wade through channels of water, which can be knee or even thigh-high depending on rainfall, so be prepared to get wet. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and well behaved dogs are welcome. This popular event will take place on Saturday 27th July 2019 starting promptly at 1pm from Arnside Promenade. You will be required to register between 11:30 and 12:30 to confirm all details and collect your t-shirt. The walk will end at Kent’s Bank, near Grange-over-Sands at approximately 5pm, however timings will be dependent on the route. The quickest way to get between the start and finish points of the walk is by train. We recommend parking at either the start or finish point and using the train. We DO NOT provide our own transport for walkers, however there will be marshals on hand to help you with parking and advise you on the day. You will receive more information about travel options in your welcome pack. Registration costs £12 (£6 under 16s) and includes a free event t-shirt for adults and children. Please scroll down to register. We hope you will join us this year for a sponsored walk like no other. Last year we raised just over £11,000, which was fantastic, and this year we’re hoping to do even better and raise £12,000. This will go towards our vital work protecting and enhancing some of the most spectacular and precious landscapes in England.
