We will be running Season One of the Great Asby Archaeology Survey on weekdays from Monday 23rd September until Friday 11th October (15 days in total). Season Two will be held in March 2020, with dates to be announced nearer the time. This will involve a level one landscape survey, which will be led by archaeologists from Northern Archaeological Associates as part of the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme. Staff from NAA with guide you on how to ‘read the landscape’, identifying evidence of past human activity across the Scar. You will learn how set up a field survey and the methods used to record sites. There will also be an opportunity to see how the information gathered is used to help manage the archaeological resource for future generations. No experience is necessary as all training will be provided, as will all the equipment. However a certain level of fitness will be required as there will be undulating terrain and a walk up to the Scar. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to get in touch (see contact details below).
