The Lake District National Park is more vulnerable than at any time in the past. It should not be damaged, exploited, nor “loved to death”, but protected, enhanced, and celebrated.

Ride with us on ‘Alex’ the beautiful Cumbrian Classic Coach, to hear how we have worked to achieve these aims in the past and will continue to stand up for the landscape in the future.

Outstanding views guaranteed!

Cumbria is rightly lauded and recognised for its beautiful landscapes; two National Parks, three AONBs and two World Heritage Sites are the official recognitions, but these landscapes have been celebrated for centuries.

National Parks were created by people with vision, who fully understood the value of special landscapes and the benefits they can provide for a nation and its people.

This year, as Friends of the Lake District turns 85 and the National Parks turn 70, we wonder how our founders would feel today about the pressures increasingly threatening these landscapes they wanted to protect for future generations to enjoy: inappropriate development, the effects of climate change, the post-Brexit uncertainties facing our upland farming families, and the impacts of our many millions of visitors.

On our Magical Mystery Bus Tour, we will show you the splendour around us, but we will also take the opportunity to point out some of the practical implications of these threats, together with our ideas for addressing them in a pragmatic and positive manner.
Sign up, sit back and enjoy the ride.
