Support Us Appeals Save Our Lake District appeal Please support our campaign to Save Our Lake District. Why did you last visit the Lake District? To climb the majestic fells, walk through sun-dappled woodlands, enjoy a cup of tea in a quiet valley, take a dip in an icy tarn or enjoy our Dark Skies? There’s something for everyone in this special place, but it needs looking after. Worrying proposals are appearing more frequently, encouraged in part by the apparent belief that we need a new “big and spectacular” icon to bring a wider range of people here. We've had a fantastic response to our appeal. Your donations will help us in our campaign to save the lake district and help us deliver the outcomes that we need to sustain the future of our amazing National Park and to: Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area; and Promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the Parks' special qualities by the public. Great Gable - Andrew Locking What could be bigger and more spectacular than our landscapes, which already attract an increasing number of visitors every year? Whilst we acknowledge the need for activities and opportunities for all, the Lake District is unique, and we cannot let its special qualities, including the quiet and tranquillity that draws so many here, be destroyed by unsuitable developments. Everything has to evolve, including our National Parks, but changes should help enhance the Lake District rather than come at its expense. We must never forget that these are National Parks, special places for everyone and to be managed in a special way. Magical, inspiring, beautiful landscapes, allowing us to escape from the daily grind of our ever- faster modern lives. Zip wires in open countryside, cable cars up fells, the tolerance of recreational vehicles in unsuitable areas, and the use of inappropriate materials in repairs or construction all erode the character of a protected landscape. Each individual action contributes to a significant cumulative effect or can create a dangerous precedent. We are concerned by this increasing number of threats and the possible consequences. We have been working hard behind the scenes: meetings with decision makers; listening to and advising local communities; attending the Planning meetings. It is now time for a concentrated effort that could secure the long term future of the Lake District – and indeed all our National Parks. This is why we have launched a new campaign, “Save our Lake District” (SOLD). We are calling on everyone to recognise, respect and adhere to the Lake District National Park’s statutory Purposes: To conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area; and To promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the Parks' special qualities by the public. You make our voice stronger and your donations are vital. This Campaign will take time and resources, but when we succeed the Lake District National Park will be managed in the way that those before us envisaged; benefitting wildlife, the environment, and all of us in our busy, technology-driven lives. Your donations will be spent wisely on our planning and campaigning work, together we can Save Our Lake District. Campaigns like this are made possible only because of your donations. Thank you.
