Another 'eventful' month. We held our Wasdale Fell Care Day, ran two Leaders Landscape training sessions, hosted a visit from the University of the Third Age at our High Borrowdale Meadows and found a little time to visit Blencathra to begin arrangements for our September Fell Care Day.

Wasdale Fell Care Day 4th July - 71 volunteers and 28 task leaders and staff took part on Saturday 4th July for Friends of the Lake District’s Wasdale Fell Care Day. The mass-volunteering event saw volunteers joining together to get stuck into a whole host of practical conservation tasks to help look after the spectacular upland landscape. Upland Hay Meadows at High Borrowdale 6th July - University of the Third Age (U3A) group on a visit to our upland hay meadows at High Borrowdale. You can find our much more about our property at High Borrowdale here>

Leaders Landscape Training Session 10th July - Fascinating facts, stimulating debate and lots to digest at our Leader's Landscape Training session at Rydal: Upland woodland restoration and the effects of grazing regimes - led by the hugely knowledgeable Mike Douglas of South Lakes Ecology. And talking of digesting, we learnt that 'cuckoo spit' is actually the home of a sap sucking insect that creates it's bubbly shelter using ahem, the gas it passes!

Leaders Landscape Training Session 22nd July - Leaders learning about limestone at Little Asby. Lovely! Outdoor practitioners spent the day finding out about clints, grykes, dowly trees, and also how we manage this incredibly special land owned by Friends of the Lake District. Next Leader's Landscape Training session: 7th August, Tree ID at FLD property, The Helm, near Kendal. Contact contact [email protected] for details.
