During the autumn of 2014 the adventure company Treetop Treks were investigating the development of four separate mile-long zipwires running from Greenside Mines to Glenridding on open fellside.  Many villagers and local businesses in Glenridding were very unhappy about this proposal and set up a campaign group and petition against the zipwire which Friends of the Lake District supported.  This included setting up a Parish vote which was held in mid-December.  The outcome of the vote was overwhelmingly against the zipwire (324 votes to 13).  Treetop Treks then did the right thing and committed not to develop the plans any further because of the strength of feeling against the zipwires.  You can find out more information here http://www.noziphere.org/
